Freeboard BV is a maritime consultancy company founded and owned by Bruno Bouckaert, a Naval Architect (MSc) with more than twenty years of experience in the maritime industry. Bruno started as a Marine Surveyor working for the classification society RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) from 2001 to 2004. At RINA, Bruno conducted newbuild surveys on Carnival and Costa Cruise ships in Finland, as well as annual, occasional and special surveys on a variety of vessels in Northern Europe. In 2004, Bruno started his own company Innomare, based in the Netherlands, which name was changed to Freeboard BV in 2019. Bruno has worked as an independent maritime consultant in various roles, including owner’s representative for a number of newbuilds, maritime journalist, naval architect and marine engineer and as sales director for Hull Vane BV, a producer of energy-saving devices for medium-speed and fast vessels.

Any shipbuilding project, whether it’s a newbuild or a conversion, is a complex project, with many disciplines intertwhined. A change in one area can have consequences in many others. It takes a generalist to oversee this at an early stage.

Product development and marketing

It’s essential to visualise how things operate in 3D before they are built. This can be a ship, but it can also be a product. Apart from technical soundness, it’s also important to know how to bring a product to market. Too many great innovations have perished in the “valley of death” because it was never properly explained how they addressed the needs of which clients. Freeboard BV can help you with this.
